Whoever is an engineer in Tamilnadu
The long-waiting Kamatchi Hospital signal is a landmark of this road. The 'chor rasta' (four roads)connects the Pallavaram, Medavakkam, and Velacherry. The 200 ft road that links the GST and OMR is well known to people in Tambaram commissionerate. Many suburban people use this road to reach Thiruvanmuyiur or OMR.
For any youngster who comes along the GST and enters the 100 ft to reach OMR, the breeze they get from Pallavaram 'Periya Eri' is bliss. At any speed bike travels, the lake's breeze appears to be an oasis in summer weather, making them reduce their speed to enjoy it slightly.
After crossing a few signals to the next Lake... you may think that your blissful moments may continue at Vel's university adjacent to Nemilichery Lake, neither the so-called university nor Nemilichery Lake favour your thoughts. The 200 ft road will be almost at 1st-floor height compared to the road to Vel's University/Lake Road.
For another 2 km, you could witness a deserted road of trees. The furious sun might bake you on the road like a thar oven. Certainly, the Keelkattalai is an order of our nature to cool our suffocated clothes'(from our fuming sweat). Unlike Nemilchery Lake, this lake is obvious to everyone and an eye treat amidst the brand-new concrete jungle. Not to mention the free space levies a cost on us, the 6 lane becomes 4 lane here! Oh oh oh... government has not made it as 4 lanes in the interest of the lake & people's recreation. Our heavy trucks use each lane on either side of the road for parking.
Neither the sun nor the dust will leave you. You need to travel another 2 km, to find another oasis in the arid city roads... Narayanapuram Lake one another eye feast awaiting you. You can spot rare birds also here. The Nageshwari Amman on the 'Eri Karai' road may hint to you that this region could be once ruled by snakes.
The moment you cross the Lake you start to see buildings fitted with glasses of green tint. Building might be shining but traffic and noise along with petroleum fumes make your face dull. If you are lucky you may escape the 1km traffic and Velachery - 200ft road junction within a minute. Otherwise, you watch the vehicles moving in all 7 directions for 8 to 15 minutes. Don't worry this place will help you to think a lot, about how the National Institute of Ocean Technology formed a marshland... they might be interested in the ocean but not about the people who are saved by marshland.
You may get a funny title like "Mountain on Marshland" after seeing the Perungudi dump yard. You may be carried away by similar ideas but when the signal turns red to green your mind comes to the acceleration throttle of your bike engine instead of thoughts. Erk most of us want to cross the marshland in a single breath, not because the road is free, but due to the bad smell of the dumpyard.
When you cross the stretch straight opposite to the dumpyard you will witness the Chennai One IT Park at the cost of signal,
Well written Dinesh! I travel this route to the office and I can vividly imagine and experience the sights and smells as I read this from the comfort of my armchair!
